Music Rising at Tulane Launches New Site


This month a new website was launched by Tulane’s Center for the Gulf Coast South and Music Rising, a non-profit started by legendary producer Bob Ezrin, U2′s The Edge, and a host of other industry partners. Tutti Dynamics partnered with Tulane and Music Rising to provide interactive educational content for this special project.

The innovative website features a curriculum, original content, artists’ biographies and instructional programs designed to increase the study of the Gulf South’s rich musical cultures among schoolchildren and scholars alike. New Release: Introduction to Guitar

 We’re happy to announce the release of a beginner guitar collection composed and performed by Thaddeus Hogarth. These songs complement the Introduction to Guitar course that Thaddeus teaches on the Coursera platform.

Thaddeus Hogarth is an award-winning singer/songwriter and guitar faculty at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music. You can learn more about his music on his website.

Born in England and raised in St. Kitts, West Indies, multi-instrumentalist Thaddeus Hogarth brings a diverse set of musical influences to his work. As an original recording artist, he leads a powerhouse unit delivering a collection of serious funk-rock R&B tunes that make you stop, listen and groove.

Thaddeus has previously shared the bill or stage with the likes of such legends as Tower of Power, Ernie Isley, Average White Band, Fred Wesley (James Brown), Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic), Matt Schofield, Steve Kimock, The Neville Brothers, Eric Gales, Johnny Winter and James Montgomery.

As an educator, Thaddeus has authored a highly acclaimed guitar instructional book, “Funk/R&B Guitar: Creative Solos, Grooves and Sounds” on Hal Leonard/Berklee Press. This book outlines his unique approach to guitar instruction. This is explored in depth in his Berklee Music Online Course: Funk R&B Guitar.

His “Intro to Guitar” course on Coursera has been featured on the Today Show and NBC and enrollment has surpassed 120,000 students around the world.

EE Regional Comes to New Orleans

The Tutti team had a great time meeting with the nine bands, representing four states, that participated in this year’s regional Essentially Ellington festival in New Orleans. Irvin Mayfield’s New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and the University of New Orleans hosted the event.

The high school bands each performed and participated in a master class with professors from the University of New Orleans and instructors from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s EE program. It was day full of great music, education, and laughs.

Participating high schools included: The Dunham School (Baton Rouge, LA), Grissom High School (Huntsville, AL), James Bowie High School (Austin, TX), Kentwood High Magnet School (Kentwood, LA), Little Rock Central High School (Little Rock, AR), The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (New Orleans, LA), St. Thomas More Catholic School (Lafayette, LA), Westlake High School (Westlake, LA), and Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center (Dallas, Texas).

City Business- Female Entrepreneurs Share their Experiences

Sheerle from American Nursing Services, Lauren Thom from Fleurty Girl, and Cherly Scripter from Bittersweet Confections, and Kristen spoke about their experiences building their businesses.
